Leave of Absence
Supporting our employees through challenging times is essential to our mission at Barnes. We understand that personal or family hardships such as injury, illness, or significant life events can arise unexpectedly. To ensure our team members feel secure during such periods, we offer comprehensive leave of absence coverage.
For all U.S.-based full-time salaried and non-union hourly employees facing extended absences from work, we provide two essential forms of income protection:
-
Short-term Disability: This coverage extends to absences not exceeding 26 weeks and encompasses illnesses, injuries (outside the workplace), or pregnancies requiring regular physician care.
-
Long-term Disability: Offered at no cost to eligible employees, long-term disability benefits provide support in cases of total disability preventing work. A waiting period must be satisfied before these benefits commence, ensuring assistance reaches those in genuine need.
Eligibility for short-term and long-term disability benefits begins after three months of continuous service, with coverage taking effect from the first of the following month.
As well, Barnes administers Family Medical Leave for eligible employees. The FMLA is a federal law that allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave per year for certain family and medical reasons, ensuring you can take time off and focus on recovering.
